THE REDEMPTION RUN

In the early days of the Rebellion, before the Battle of Yavin, the Empire discovered and
attacked a Rebel base at Briggia. Although most of the Rebels present in the area managed
to escape, many were wounded in the relentless assault led by the Imperial Star Destroyer
Invincible.

The Corvette Korolev and three Medevac Shuttles were dispatched to deliver the wounded to the Alliance's medical Frigate, Redemption. Four X-Wings from Red Squadron were assigned to guard this transfer, just in case the Empire would be low enough to attack the unarmed Frigate and the transports full of wounded. It was.

Worse still, the captain of the Imperial Frigate Warspite had a cunning plan. He jumped into the system, launched a wave of TIEs, then quickly entered hyperspace again...only to reappear on the other side of the Redemption and add more Bombers to the fray. Only strict discipline and good teamwork allowed the X-Wings to respond to all the threats and save the wounded from certain death.

This training mission recreates that dramatic moment. It is meant to train your teamwork skills and add another dimension to your Fox membership. It's been mostly melees so far, but if this works out well, Fox Squadron will be flying more missions. Consider this one an experiment.

'The Redemption Run' was not written by a Fox, although I do not know who the original author is. Flight Officer Wedge found it on the Internet and brought it to my attention. I merely made some changes to it (bug fixes, mainly).

Thanks go to Flight Officers Wedge and Maniac for beta testing this mission.

MISSION INFORMATION

This mission is a COMBAT mission in XVT format. Therefore, it goes into the XvT/combat directory. It is suitable for up to four Rebel players. Although the mission also supports up to two Imperial pilots, it is meant as a Rebel cooperative mission - the Imperial slots could be filled with instructors to make the run more challenging.

NOTE ON MISSION NAME

In various sources, this mission is known under various names. The original name of the mission in X-Wing is 'Protect Medical Frigate'. It is the fourth mission of the first Tour of Duty, 'A New Ally'.
The mission is most often referred to as the 'Redemption Run'. Many veterans of the original X-Wing game, however, call it the 'Korolev Run', after the CRV Korolev, one of the most frustrating mission critical craft in StarWars flight sim history. Finally, Michael A. Stackpole refers to this operation as the 'Requiem mission' in his novel 'X-Wing: Rogue Squadron', for unknown reasons.
